Saint Anthonys Farm Overview
Saint Anthony Farm is located on 140 lush acres in West Petaluma, California, at 11205 Valley Ford Road (between Bloomfield Road and Roblar Road). Since 1952, Saint Anthony Farm has been utilized as a residential recovery program facility, with an active farm operation. The farming consisted of a self-contained certified Organic Dairy with QAI and NCEC certifications, the growing and harvesting of organic silage for the cattle, a large greenhouse and organic gardens for production of vegetables and fruit. Each day, more than 1800 gallons of organic milk were produced at the farm and made available to consumers through the premium Clover Stornetta Organic Line.
Since the early1990's, Saint Anthony Farm has been engaged in up-to-date sustainable farm practices. In 2007, a methane bio-digester was constructed to generate power from the farm-produced manure. The bio-digester reduces greenhouse gas emissions by capturing methane, and provides a portion of the electricity requirements for the farm. A new Buttery Building was constructed in 2007 and Clover Stornetta began creating their high-line organic butter from the dairy production.
Due to the changing economy and other factors the St. Anthony Foundation decided to liquidate their real estate assets in Sonoma County in order to continue their primary service of feeding thousands of people daily in San Francisco. The Residential Treatment Facility was closed, the dairy herd was sold and the property now stands ready for a new owner/operator. Clover Stornetta and the McClelland Family are still making butter in the buttery and the McClellands are grazing the pasture and planting the silage. This provides income and maintenance of the property during the sale period. The property could be quickly vacated or the new owners can make their own arrangements with these wonderful people. The Farm is being maintained according to all organic requirements.
